I think we should be grateful at all, that people get banned and refunded.

Lichess' system is almost 100X stronger than someother websites in this field.

Refund points are there to not discourage you, not for the sake of it like other websites.

They show that lichess cares, and that it tries its hardest.

I would disagree as sometimes they would ban people for no reason at all compared to chess.com chess24 etc. Also, the refund points does not work at all and i could go on for countless of years

Automatic cheat detector does not work every time. There is a game I played before. I showed it to my friends and they all agreed with me on that my opponent cheated. There was a position where NO HUMAN would play long castle. Believe me when I say, even a GM would not do that in my opinion. But he did anyway and not even thinking more than 7.5 seconds. After that ALL OF HIS MOVES were what stockfish recommended. I reported the game to moderators. But no result.

If the player plays bad in general and later starts to cheat only in hard and sharp positions, no cheat engine can detect that. Computer does not think that this position is hard or easy, only gives you numbers. Using the engine for only one position could change the result of the game. People do that in real tournaments. They do not get caught most of the time. And you think you lose because they are better than you. Nope!

@liftyourbody Detection of intermittent cheating is far from impossible.
