Stockfish 16 beta

after registering, i asked for local evaluation by toggling -- took maybe 30+ seconds to load stockfish/database... after the initial toggle, i asked for server analysis. server seemed to wait for stockfish to load, then took another 10-15 seconds before starting analysis on the game.

doing another analysis on a different game, "variation arrows let you navigate" dialog appeared in the middle of that server eval. to the best of my knowledge, i didn't move or click on a mouse, nor did i use the keyboard

Just a quick note for everyone.

We are aware that the engine takes some time to download the first time you visit testy. It's about 4x bigger (40 MB) than the stockfish 14 on lichess.org. This is one reason we are reticent to upgrade.

It is normal to see the variation arrow help dialog. Everyone who visits analysis on testy.lichess.dev will see it once again because it is a different website and your browser creates new settings for it. This has nothing to do with stockfish.
Well ran the engine using Waterfox browser. I never logged in. Loaded fast enough. I let the analysis run and once the plus sign appeared, I forced the PV 1 to be played out (pressed the last move of the first PV line). I repeated the process until the game was complete.

The menu settings was
Multiple lines 5 / 5
CPUs 3 / 3
Memory 256MB

The test was done on an old computer: MSI 2A9C Bios 03/18/2011
Intel Core i3 540 @ 3.07Ghz
RAM DDR3 6 GBytes Dual Channel PC3-10700 (667 Mhz)
NVIDIA Quadro FX 1700

The results of the game is in the study.
+0.4 Stockfish 16NNUEDepth 22/22 + (352k nodes/s) If worked well even with this low nodes/s.

No problem, yeah I see what you mean there. FWIW, it happens in standalone stockfish as well, every version I've tried.

I'm told pruning hiccups are pretty common so I (personally) wouldn't bother reporting it to stockfish devs but if you'd like to - github.com/official-stockfish/Stockfish/issues

Agreed, there's a new build up including this info for the download - most will only have to do this once but "how long will this take" is still an important question.
Good new version and I like it that you can switch the time SF uses to think for a move. But sometimes it takes longer than the 8 seconds I've chosen.
Hi I'd like to report a bug. At most depths and neural net sizes Stockfish reports that the best first move is e4. However, this is clearly an error, since the best opening move is clearly c4. I trust this will be fixed in the next update?

Best wishes,

Jason
