I just broke 2300 in Blitz after almost 12,000 games and in an effort to diminish the accomplishment, I thought I would take a look at one indicator of rating inflation over time on Lichess.
I was surprised to find that cumulative percentiles have not changed that much since the recent boom, but I can at least argue that 2350 is the new 2300 :)
Date Weekly Players 25% 50% 75% 90% 95% 99%
April 2016 40,000 1425 1625 1850 2025 2125 2300
Nov 2019 287,000 1250 1500 1775 2000 2125 2300
June 2021 727,000 1200 1500 1775 2025 2150 2350
I do realize that this is not a true representation of rating inflation as it does not take into account the strength of players. Your thoughts are welcome.
