Lichess Olympiad

Hello dear Lichess community,

I read through a few forum posts recently, discussing how to conduct team events( Olympiads) on lichess. And I had an idea of how it would maybe work to have really big Olympiads on lichess.org.
First of all, I don´t know anything about website programming, so I don´t know whether my idea can be actually realized.

The Lichess Olympiad will be announced a few days beforehand, so that everyone can chose his (home) country. When the Olympiad starts, the server uses the little flags from the profiles to divide the players into different country teams.

The tournament itself consists of a big pool, similar to the arena tournaments.
The users can join and quit this pool. But instead of the arena tournament standings, the flags of the countrys will be displayed. Once a player from country A wins, his win is added to the score of country A. Of course the pairings will only be country A vs. country B.

The Olympiad will go for several days, and at the end of it, the nation which gathered the most points, wins.

Please tell me, if you like my idea.
Have a nice day!
@Metzge it would be more fair to take the mean due to the different number of players for each team.

Yes, you are right. My score system had defects.

But it would maybe work, if for every country matchup, there would be a seperate match, country A vs. country B.
At the top runs a countdown clock (24 hours), the players can join or withdraw from the match and games are played between the players, who are currently there.
The results are added up to determine the final score.
By doing it this way, big teams with several thousands of players can play small teams with only a few houndred, because games can´t be played, when members of the other team aren´t there.
I think, that a win only counts, when the winning country gained at least a couple of points more than the other, just to make sure, that a small country doesn´t win accidentally against a very strong country, only because the strong players weren´t there at that time.

I am looking forward to your comments and suggestions!

I can't understand the following.

"if for every country matchup, there would be a seperate match, country A vs. country B."
@duropo

No problem, I will try to explain it.
One entire round lasts 24 hours. In one round, we have lots of matches between all the participating countries( for example UK vs. Spain, USA vs. Sweden etc.). Each of these matches lasts as long as the round.
Thanks i got it.

Your suggestion is fine except the scoring.

Your scoring favors nationality with more players, because you add up the score. Boyagent suggested to take the average instead.
